VT is at a crossroads. Do we want to swim in the big water?

Good post. Love the passion.

I hated the way that we came in to the ACC. I appreciate that UVa helped us out when it seemed we were going to get left out. But IIRC, had UNC or Duke not voted against expansion to begin with (and in so giving UVa the power by the vote totals to help us), we would have been left out. But I have zero allegiance to the ACC.

I do have some allegiance to UVa as a result, but this is not infinite. Assuming we could have gone to the SEC with A&M, I thought it would be bad form to leave at that time. Failing to pursue it was to me payback for UVa's help getting us in to the ACC. But that was almost a decade ago. We have been a fine member of the ACC. And a lot has changed in the landscape since then. From us "adding" Notre Dame to the latest expansionpalooza with Texas and the SEC. My position now is that UVa and Tech should compare notes. But it's every man for himself and VT needs to realize that UVa has options too, and if they don't want to exercise them, that's their problem.

I hear your passion about the business side of things and the posturing of just going along and getting along in the conference, but I feel the same way about the on the field project about Beamer staying on too long, neglecting for years the ineptitude on the offensive staff, making a status quo hire as a replacement, then giving him a foolish extension. And people then wonder where the good times have gone.

I know the GOR makes it hard to move, but I'm keeping my options open. More importantly, I want a tougher and better OOC schedule (even if this means going on the road) and I'm pushing the conference for a 10 game schedule.

We can't just snap our fingers and be in the SEC tomorrow, but we can at least start acting like an alpha dog in our own conference.
