of what the new economic drivers were and try to position us well. It has been quite obvious for a long time that the ACC's hopes were pinned on adding ND and/or Texas.

Leaving yourself at the mercy of others is not good stewardship. I also blame our fans for clinging to the mindset described in your post. I just don't think our alums are mean enough and tough enough to get this done. Far too many were happy taking groovy trips to Duke and being able to drive to most of our away games. Meanwhile, down the street the SEC was building a war machine to steamroll everyone.

I spend a lot of time in SEC country and this "proper Virginia gentleman" mindset is why we are in this situation. It is inexcusable that a team in a small state like Iowa has far more TV money than VT. Why? Because Swofford couldn't effectively float a TV network. Hence, we are out-earned by IOWA! How stupid is that? If we merely had the budget of Iowa, this probably wouldn't matter.

The SEC even floated some leaks in 2012 to see if it would start a brushfire where our alums would rise up, pressure our administration and the state politicians to let us go, but most of you guys didn't want to and apparently STILL are on the fence if we had that option today (which has passed). The perfect window was 2012 and we scratched our butts and let that window close.

If we were like the SEC, some sharp-elbowed megalomaniac alum that owns 20 bass ponds and several tractor dealerships would have muscled us into the proper position - jumping to the SEC in 2012! Even if our politicans and administration were against it! You might hold your nose at that guy, but that guys WINS. He steals the QB and the monster LB recruits from us. That guy doesn't want to hold hands at Duke and Wake road game tailgates. If you guys don't like what is happening, TOO BAD, you got what you wanted. This is the road you chose.

This isn't meant to be a mean-spirited post. It is to suggest you be more aware and realistic if you are surprised by this.
