A 3rd party is delighted to take your money to give you "peace of mind." But when it comes time to pay out a warranty claim, it is in their best interest to do it as slowly as cheaply as possible.

No thanks.

For the younger and more cash-strapped segments of society, it may be a good idea to buy a home warranty to insulate yourself from repairs that could run in the thousands. But I'm at a point financially where I can self-insure against most anything short of massive damage to the home or a large liability claim against me. And I've found things just move both faster and better when you are the one paying for it vs. relying on a 3rd party to do so.
