A prong collar worked wonders with my former Brittany mix

He was a strong puller on a normal collar (would practically choke himself) or with any kind of harness etc. With a Gentle Leader (the one that goes on the muzzle) he flopped around like a fish and I worried he'd hurt himself. The prong collar gave him just enough sensation to stop him from pulling without actually hurting him. The look vicious but really not that bad. The goal is to break off their attention before it escalates to full-blown lunging.

No matter which way you go, it's important to start out with a short leash and give more slack as training progresses. If you let them have a full 6ft lead from Day1 they'll be much tougher to train/control.
