Yeah, whatever decision you make, "loyalty" shouldn't be a factor. At all.
That is a romantic concept from 75 years ago, but it doesn't really exist in the US business world today.
That doesn't give either employer or employee a reason to be a jerk about anything. But no one should stay with an employer just out of loyalty, and no employer should keep a deadbeat employee just out of loyalty either.
