I'd suggest taking it to your local bike shop for a courtesy inspection.


They can confirm or deny your diagnosis, and give you an idea of the refurb costs. Check out what their current procedures are for dropping it off, etc considering the current environment.

The term "hybrid" bike covers a vast number of bike types these days, so you'll need to narrow it down a little more. You should think about how you'll be riding it,etc. I'd definitely stay away from those pared down mountain bikes that have only 2-3" of suspension travel. For the same money, skip the suspension and get a bike with a better drive train. There are also gravel bikes, which look like road bikes, but can accommodate wider tires.

Just to see what kind of bikes are out there, you can go to trekbikes dot com. Choose your price point, and see what the selection is. Other manufacturers will have comparable models at those same price points.
