My take...


I also have a 30 yr old Gary Fisher in the basement that I am looking into turning into a cycle trainer. I have another MTB that I ride outdoors and even that has outdated components, as I learned last year when I blew out a hydraulic brake line.

If you really want to go ride, get a new bike. It will likely be a project to modernize your current one. I'm not yet sure I can do what I want to do with my old bike.
