I've experienced one of the long bolts on my seat shearing off...

...several years ago, and about as far away from my truck as possible. It broke near the bottom of False Cape State park, and I had to ride standing in the pedals during the ride back.

The bolt hadn't been torqued in well over a decade...maybe two. Guess it had just developed stress cracks over the years. But other than the elastomers in the JudyXC disintegrating, I haven't had any other mechanical failures with the bike (knock on wood).

One question: did you buy a bike that had brazings for bag racks? Never thought about that until our backpacking trip to False Cape this spring. Two people in our group rode their bikes to the camping area.
