Really twice! ;^)
Just started hitting sections this past summer for things to do, wasn't really planned. just kinda enjoyed the adventure of hitting sections I hadn't been on before and there are certainly surprises, posted a few pictures too, eg one of a perfectly still Potomac river reflecting the sky and sunset perfectly.
I say twice because I park, go out and back, so I might knock off 12 miles of the trail, but that would be 24 miles round trip. I'd already done Great Falls to Georgetown and a couple hours up the trail so I didn't re-do those this summer.
It's grate b/c on a lot of hot days it's pretty cool under the shade and there have been some perfect days. I had almost gotten to the Paw Paw tunnel last time, so parked there yesterday, and only had to go 3 miles to mm 153 to connect up (which is why I went one way then the other) Up to mm160 now probably go to Town Creek and ride downriver and "connect up" again.
I'm not driving myself to do it, just doing a leisurely 20 miles or so each time enjoy myself and whadayaknow, I've almost completed the whole thing now, 25 to go.
PS Loved the section from Hancock, ride the canal, come back on the paved rail trail, historical markers, even some flags and stuff coming back into Hancock, have lunch/dinner/beer at Lou's where you can still see the trails.
PPS I've also done sections of the GAP trail but not this summer - well, one day a couple hours from Ohiopyle - maybe that will be next.
