Yep. "You think that's bad...." a they try to one-up the one in need. Not


that they aren't trying to help. Maybe they think hearing a worse story will make one feel better, but it isn't about them.

I inadvertently did that when I spoke with a friend who lost her mother. I shared my experiences, then thought "what the heck was I thinking?"

I felt awful. I still feel awful.
