They can credit Kevin Ollie for the basketball woes.

He won a national championship with Jim Calhoun's players, but he didn't recruit very well after that. UConn has a good coach now in Danny Hurley who is a proven success at Rhode Island. He needs time to build the program back.

But realignment has hurt UConn's athletics financially. Right now they are operating an Athletics Department that is much larger than UConn can afford. The department is running a high deficit. I don't know how much longer that can last. They either need to get into a P5 or start cutting back.
