I don't disagree that the ACC needs to make money off the ACCN

My point is that the ACCN may still end up being a failed enterprise because the ACC decided to be a "pelican" (Wicked Tuna reference) in this situation. In the past if ESPN decided to air VT vs. Notre Dame on ABC or 1 of the ESPN channels, then there was a good chance that more fans of neither school would tune in to watch the game.

However, if the game is aired on the ACCN, then there is no guarantee that those people are willing to pay to get the ACCN so they can watch the game. It may even set a bad precedent for the ACC to continue having more marquee games air on the ACCN while the other 5 conferences have their marquee games aired on ABC, Fox, CBS, or the ESPN family of channels. It is even possible there will be some Hokie or Irish fans that decide instead of watching VT vs. Notre Dame on the ACCN, they would rather watch whatever marquee game is airing on ABC.

If the ACCN doesn't have the kind of success that the ACC hoped for, then the ACC will have to spend time wiping egg off its PR face. It could also lead to a crack forming in the conference if schools feel the lack of exposure from the ACCN is having a negative impact on recruiting. Plus, it could also lead to some tension within the conference if not everyone is spending their "fair share" of time on the ACCN. At least I would think Babcock would be concern if VT has 9-11 of football games aired on the ACCN each season while Clemson, FSU, or Miami may only have 0-2 games aired on the channel particularly if the ACCN is producing significantly lower ratings than ABC or ESPN.
