I think ND was more than willing to put all conference shifts on hold...

...until they got the deal they did with the ACC. They didn't need to be in the ACC for basketball or any of the non-revenue sports, so I think they were more than willing to wait. Flirting with the B-12 just accelerated the ACC's decision to invite ND under their terms.

I'm sure ND would have preferred to play fewer than 5 games against ACC schools every year, but I guess they decided to toss the ACC a bone for the trouble. That, and a promise to make the ACC their destination if they EVER decided to join for football also helped placate some of the doubters. The ACC went from "all schools are to be treated equally" to making special deals...like the B-12. That wouldn't fly in the B-10, SEC, or PAC-12, but when your marquee teams have struggled for a decade. Oh well...

Personally I would rather have ND with the current deal than not have them associated with the ACC.
