Who says Texas would have make the first move?

If ESPN decides that if the LHN is no longer sustainable, then it could decide to shut down the network and pay Texas whatever early termination fee is spelled out in the contract. At that point Texas is free to join the Big Ten.

Another possibility is that the Big Ten is perfectly happy waiting for LHN contract to expire. Under that scenario ESPN and Texas allow the contract to run its course. Either 1 or both parties decide not to renew the contract which frees up Texas to join the Big Ten.

My point is that if Texas wants to join the Big Ten, then at some point Texas will get its wishe because ESPN doesn't have an indefinite control over their future.
