I work Maryland side (Democracy Blvd, right at 270 Spur) live in VA

I won't sugarcoat it: no matter where you live the commute is awful. That being said, I'm the fool that pays to live in Arlington and commute to MD...and it could be a lot worse. Because crossing the bridge from MD into VA in the AM (vice versa at night) is unbearable. Here's how it works:

If you're coming from VA and you can cross the bridge at 7 AM or before, there's rarely traffic. After work you need to cross it at 4 PM (or 7 PM like me).

If you're living in MD, live close to where you're working. In your case sounds like you'd want to look at Rockville if possible.

But you want to avoid crossing that Bridge during prime hours; and you REALLY want to avoid anything to do with 270 South in the AM/North in the PM.
