Pac 10 (at the time) was interested in

Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Colorado. TAMU left Texas and the Big 12 for the SEC. Colorado finally joined the Pac 10 (12) after 20 years of interest in the conference. Baylor was never on the Pac 10's original list. Maybe Baylor was thrown in after TAMU left for the SEC, but the Pac 10 (at the time) never had any interest in any private schools, especially religious affiliated schools. Like the SEC and Big 10, the Pac 12 is interested in large state universities. Only the ACC (Miami, BC, Syracuse, and a partial Notre Dame) and Big 12 (TCU) added private universities during modern P-5 expansion.
