I haven't hit a hardball since the 70's but unless the machines can now mix

Fast, slow & curves balls I'm not convinced of their worth. To me the key to being a good hitter is being able to get your timing down with the motion of the pitcher and to be able to differentiate between a fast ball and curve which a machine won't allow you to master.
Any opinions?
