Yep, only 11% of the FBS schools have won football national championships..

since Notre Dame won its last one in 1988. Only 14 schools have won it which includes the disputed GA Tech/Colorado champions. That means 114 schools haven't won a football national championship.

Notre Dame had a chance against Alabama in 2012 (Jan. 2013), so it's not like it can't happen sooner than later. Notre Dame will need a 12-0 regular season record and top 4 regular season ranking to get in the playoffs. The only way I see Notre Dame not getting in with that record/ranking would be if 4 Power 5 conference champions all go 13-0 and are ranked in the top 5. It's even possible that a 12-1 SEC champion and three 13-0 P-5 conference champs will get in over a 12-0 Notre Dame. Then again, how many teams have ended the season 13-0? Not many, so a 12-0 Notre Dame probably has an excellent chance of making the playoffs.
