TerryD first of all welcome to the board! Second you do realize that ND has

said repeatedly that they day they can't make the National Championship as Independent is the day they will join a conference? That's not fans making that up, that's the ND administration.

Also, you do realize that every year it is getting harder and harder for ND to make the national championship game? The playoff gives conference champions and even more so conference champions who win their Championship game more weight. This is not made up, it has been stated over and over again.

You do know that Virginia Tech's at the time President was the Chairman of the Board of the committee that voted the playoff in to existence? There are people here that are very dialed into where we are headed.

You do remember how Urban Meyer turned down ND to go on to win National Championships at Florida and Ohio State because he said that ND was at such a disadvantage? That was after ND was all in to get Urban. That may not matter to you, but you are not a football coach that gets fired for not winning enough. I know you have a good one now, but if he leaves the track record between Holtz and Kelly is not a great one.

You do realize that with a 5 game football agreement that ND is not really independent? That's only two less games than the rest of the ACC. If one day the conferences go to 4 divisions instead of 2, ND will easily be able to keep the national schedule. That's by far the biggest and really only benefit left of being independent.

Now I know you will not likely like or agree with a thing that I said, but that's okay. I have been rocking people's reality on Conference Realignment for years. All I can tell you is that in 2003 when it looked like VT would be left out of the ACC. I had a confidential conversation and the person told me...VT will get in. If not now...later. They told me that so would Pitt and ND. This was when the ACC was visiting Miami, Syracuse and BC.They also said that we are headed toward a P4 with at least 16 and probably 4 divisions.

Get ready man...it's been almost 30 years since a National Championship in football. You may be okay with that, but some people aren't as ready to settle. Right now if ND loses one game, they are gone. That's a lot of pressure on the coaches and players and as your basketball found out in 2015, conference championships are very very cool too.

PS My childhood team before attending VT was ND. I am far from a ND hater...in fact I am look forward to seeing them back in the spot light, like when Ara and Lew coached them. That day is coming back. It's time to put down that flip phone and get that smart phone. :-)
