character development (might be where some of the wittiness has gone).

In the TV show, the Rickon stark had gone with wildling woman to the Umber,s the last hearth, which is the northernmost house, near the wall. Different in the books

The visions are going to the biggest plot climax in the books, and the writers will tease it a bit more

2 other direwolves left, arya's and brans.

Maester is a learned scholar, advisor to the lord and basic literate individual. Think political advisor and doctorate all rolled into one. Sam is speculated to learn some ancient knowledge needed to save Jon when the white walkers get there, or at least thats how the theory goes.
