WVU has about 7 or 8 JUCOs on its roster at the moment
Historically - meaning under any head coach not named Dana Holgorsen - WVU has not recruited a lot of JUCO athletes. Yes, WVU does take some and in the past couple of years it has taken more than usual. The Dana supporters will say it is because too many kids recruited by Bill Stewart washed out quickly and depth needed to be replenished. The Dana detractors will say it is because one of Dana's many shortcomings as a head coach is that he and much of his staff have not been very good recruiters and did not do a good job of relying on traditional WVU pipelines, and thus, with several lukewarm seasons, has been trying to play catch up before losing his job.
Honestly, WVU has historically not followed the Kansas State model. Under Nehlen and Rodriguez, WVU was always able to fill its classes with high school kids from Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio, along with whatever can be picked up in-state. I don't doubt that WVU's admission standards may be lower than some ACC programs. But I do not think FSU or Clemson are filling their rosters with a bunch of brain surgeons either.
