I think there are several factors to consider, 1st and foremost is


saturation for all types of "entertainment" especially sports.
There just isn't the exponential population growth for "Sports entertainment" that simply came about based on the shear # of baby boomers and their subsequent generational off spring.
Both FOX and ESPN for example have expanded their international presence into emerging markets with a focus on soccer. The NFL sees Mexico and Europe as places to grow audiences and interest.
At the American University level, most recent generations have proven that regardless of the prowess of that schools sports, they are staying away from attending games. That may or may not translate into apathy to attend or tune in as alumni.
Finally, like many, I find the constant bombardment of talking heads, games on constantly instead of them being "events" a turn off. Except for tuning in or attending VT events, I am less and less interested in general in tuning in to sporting events, regardless of the platform. I know I am not the only baby boomer, gen Xer, Millenial or another other moniker you want to put on people
