Based on my research of VT athletics, I would guess that problem existed

in the 1950s and may even have its origins in the early 1900s. Yes, I know athletics and even VT was a different school back then than how things are today. However, that is still no excuse for the leadership to not have some sort of plan that fits with VT's profile at the time. Then if/when VT's profile changes, the leadership just updates the long-term plan accordingly. It shouldn't be that difficult for the BoV, President, and AD to get together in a room and draft up a plan. Then the AD executes the plan and any adjustments along the way. In some ways it seems like VT is trying to be a big university while still operating as a small university on how it handles some of the decisions.
