Selling season tickets could be done similar to baseball here......

and I think that will come at some point in the next few years. Baseball doesn't sell "reserve" season tickets (the only reserve seating they have is the tables and suites). Part of that is to avoid what some below have noted, such as no show seats looking empty and not being filled by others. Also (for now), baseball only sells season tickets for ACC games (right now non conference games are free). I know that was done to see how the response was for the first few years, and the product (at the time this was rolled out) was not what we hoped it would be long term, and we had never charged for baseball before. For cost illustration, the full season ticket (15 games) is $120, which is $8 per game. There is also a $90, 10 game ticket, which is obviously $9 per game. So not terribly expensive, considering ACC play is not far from minor league baseball quality. Softball would be close to that level equivalent for most of ACC play.

Another big reason to sell season tickets, and I have talked with 5 or 6 baseball coaches about this, is that it gives an impression of a big time environment/program. As an example, When Coach A goes into a recruits home and says, VT Softball sells 1500 season tickets per year (which puts us X in the country), that screams big time. Doesn't matter what the cost is, as no one asks that. It screams championship quality. That is the biggest reason to sell tickets. Yes, the revenue helps some, for sure. Softball will get that soon....just will take some ironing out of details/logistics etc.
