Brazil uses sugarcane, So they avoid the whole corn starch to fermentable sugars. But thats the process helps pay the mortgage, so there's that.
I take the whole E15 debate to be purely political, or at least a discussion around competing benefits. Midwest states have been pushing for E15 for years, and the petroleum industry has been pushing against it. I know part of the problem with the ethanol in engines is that ethanol will take on water if it sticks around too long, so maybe that gets worse in cold weather.
