This is what I think……

The school has to apply to host a regional, and the venue/stadium/field must meet certain seating requirements. I believe that number is 1,000, but not exactly sure about the number. The RPI apparently is a significant factor in the decision, but not necessarily the final determinator. It also appears past history in post season play and location come into play as well. Then, from what I understand, there are a few other factors that sometimes play a role in the process that touch on school political and public perception issues……..

Last year VT made the initial cut of 20 schools to host, but a few losses near the end of the regular season moved us out of contention. I believe the super regional sites are based on seeding and region. Last year we were in UCLA’s region. If they had not won their region, we possibly would have hosted the super regional.
