the "minor leagues" or pro model applied to colleges. Let H.S. graduates that want to pursue a football or basketball professional career be able to work for a school to pursue their dreams. Isn't that the American Dream anyway? College football/bball has been the defacto minor leagues for decades, except players haven't been paid to work and train, instead they've been forced to be "student-athletes" or labeled "amateurs" or my favorite "kids" (even though at 18 they can be drafted to fight in a war) just so colleges don't have to pay them their full value. IT's been an unfair system forever. Development and training of professional NFL/NBA employees has occurred with no cost to the NFL/NBA, but that's another discussion. Totally agree about making it a for profit arm of the non-profit schools, and yes the system should be reworked to figure out how to pay for non-rev sports at colleges; it could be done.
