^ is NOT the rule
NCAA Softball Rule 11.2.5
"At the moment of bat-ball contact, the batter may not contact the pitch when any part of their body is touching home plate or the ground OUTSIDE THE LINES (caps are my emphasis) of the batter’s box."
A violation results in a delayed dead ball, meaning that play continues and the coach of the fielding team gets to make a choice... take the result of the play, or take a STRIKE on the batter and send any runners back. Of course, if that strike is the batter's 3rd, she is out.
Last year, contact outside of the box was an automatic out on the batter and a dead ball.
Unfortunately, foot position at contact is NOT REVIEWABLE this year.
