Question for umps.......
rules aficionados or others who have a take. A lot of discussion yesterday on Brown being called out of the box. I acknowledge the plate umpire has a lot going on with balls/strikes/etc. to be watching the feet and their observation point, the inside box line or front of the box line also comes in play. That being said, my understanding of the revised rule is that the critical determination is whether any part of a foot is definitively out of the box. Foot on the chalk but, not outside the chalk is still considered in the box under the rules. One final thought, this would seem one rule tailor made for replay review, not in travel but, in college, and especially come playoff time. Let the at bat proceed to play conclusion and verify with tape review. What are your opinions?
