Fu was bad, Beth was worse. Most folks, me included, liked Beth, but it became pretty obvious after running out of Bonnie’s players that she was not a good recruiter and not a good head coach.

And Dennis Wolff never should have been coaching women’s basketball. He was bad news even though he had a daughter who was good enough to play for UConn. That “down the hall” hire by Jim Weaver pretty much gutted what remained of women’s basketball at VT at the time. The only positive thing it did was we got some fairly good Australian players, and the pipeline continues today, but they were primarily the result of Dennis not being able to recruit well in the US. Magarity’s father was a good friend of Wolff’s; otherwise she’d never been here.

Also, it’s taken Kenny quite a while to get the program to what it is today, but even he admits coaching in the ACC is much tougher than he initially envisioned.
