are somewhat accurate, then UVA should be in the East and Wake in the West (if we are being GPS accurate).

As I noted in another post, the majority of the schools (5) are paired with an important rival. Only the VT-BC and UVA-L'ville pairings are forced. If BC and VT swapped places, then the divisions and pairings could look like this:

Atlantic/Coastal
Syracuse-BC
L'ville-Pitt
VT-UVA
Wake-Duke
NC State-UNC
Clemson-GT
FSU-Miami

Swapping Syracuse and VT could achieve similar results too. In all honesty, the divisions probably should have looked something like this from the beginning and assuming the ACC didn't used the same divisions for basketball too. Plus, it would leave the ACC with some wiggle room to swap L'ville and Pitt and/or FSU-Miami if so desired.

Realistically though the ACC will never be able to have completely balanced divisions in football because the conference has 7 "football-first schools" (Clemson, FSU, L'ville, Miami, NC State, Pitt, and VT). Now that isn't to say the other 7 schools can't be good or even great in football. I'm just not sure those 7 schools are committed to providing their football team with enough resources to have a long-term success that is on par with their commitment level towards the basketball programs. That factoid is 1 of the reasons I included L'ville in the football-first category even though it has a somewhat rich basketball history.
