Statins work on reducing LDL which may or may not reduce Lp(a)

Reducing Lp(a) would directly influence your risk of getting a blood clot. Last I looked into it for a family member, she was prescribed statins. As it turned out, the FDA changed the guidance on statins to where they only recommend it after you've had a heart attack or stroke. It makes no difference in preventing a first heart attack or stroke, what they call primary prevention. I don't think they have drugs yet for reducing lipoprotein A. The biggest risk is heredity and diabetes.
