Luck is also a huge factor. Look at the injuries, etc.


Yes, the better you are the luckier you get. But VT had a pretty incredible run of injury luck until 2010 or so and then it flipped to where it seemed like multiple key contributors at key positions (or promising recruits) suffered injuries, have gotten caught up in admin/academic messes, etc in the last 10 years or so.
