Appears that Big Pharma specifically targeted SW Virginia

Guessing that's because there was a medical economy and infrastructure present in that part of the Commonwealth that wasn't available in West Virginia -- which could be exploited in an efficient manner. And while the opioid epidemic has gotten some national attention relatively recently, OxyContin has been causing major problems in my SW Virginia hometown for about 20 years now.
