I think the alliance

may serve a useful purpose, I just do not buy the premise started in this thread that there is a windfall in neutral site games. To hopefully more simply state what I tried to convey to the posters generating the idea, you have to have the big boys(Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Clemson, etc.) buying in. Keep in mind these guys are all drawing in the 80K and up attendance range at home and home games are big money, in addition to competitive advantage..

I think if those ADs get a call about these games, the first thing out of their mouths is show me some numbers. IF preliminary numbers clear the hurdle, they would say sharpen your pencil and get with the TV folks to get some harder numbers and details on number of games and required participation. IF those numbers still clear the bar and by enough to justify the leg work of cancelling/reworking existing contracts then you get down to the details of actually making it work. I doubt they clear the first hurdle, I feel even stronger they do not get over the second hurdle and, even if they do, the real details and work will be extremely challenging to clear. Bottom line for me is the alliance may provide leverage, could make both the SEC and ESPN consider their plans, maybe even slightly readjust and, most importantly of all, in my opinion, provide enough real players at the table to balance/counteract discussions on a new division from being tilted decidedly to the SEC's favor. For any champion/playoff scenario to be credible you need ALL, or at least an extremely high number, of the potential contenders involved. That concept has been the Big 10/ PAC 12/Rose Bowl negotiating leverage through all of these earlier iterations. Otherwise, you return to the former bowl scenario and let everybody debate the merits of the champion at season's close. While the last scenario would not necessarily upset me, I think there is far too much money on the table for the big guys to walk away and the real discussion is just how they divvy up the pie without inviting government and antitrust problems.
