These networks and super conferences need to be very, very careful
With this push to super conferences, Networks and conferences will continue to alienate fans and make more schools irrelevant. What has always made college football so special is the passion of the fans across the country. The more schools that continue to be relegated to "lesser" status, the more fans that will start to care less and less. I've been falling in that category more and more over the years.
If the SEC goes to 20 teams, honestly, I don't and won't care. I have zero interest in those schools as I don't have any ties to them in any way shape or form. College football playoffs have limited interest to me because the playoff consists of the same teams year after year. It's gotten to the point that I just don't care. I certainly don't care enough to subscribe to SEC or BIG Ten games. If VT isn't playing, it's pretty much a given that I'm not making any effort to watch.
I like the NFL. There is enough parity that nothing is guaranteed. Teams have a reasonably level playing field to build teams and compete. College football isn't even remotely close to being that anymore.
At some point, these networks are going to be committed to paying huge amounts of money that they can't support because the needed audience just won't be there.
