You are completely wrong in your description. 1) I know SEC coaches and

they told me we could have gotten in. 2) Your description about how this plays out is completely wrong.

Some chats are made behind closed doors before you get asked or you get "asked what you would say if you got asked."

So 1) there is never any need to "go hard" after something and 2) there is never a need to get publicly embarassed - at least from the SEC.

This is an easy fix if you think about and this is how these things work.
Yes, you might get blowback once this goes public, like OU and UT are getting now, but that is not what you said.

UT and OU clearly have implicitly been invited and have implicitly accepted that invite. The people that run these operations are smooth about it.

No one ever explicitly puts themselves in a position to be publicly rejected in these situations. Our ACC acceptance was a much different situation. Quite a few schools didn't want us and a whole bunch of people had to pry that door open.

That's when people might technically say "Well, we don't know, we never got an official invite from the SEC." They are either stupid or being coy and parsing words. We had as good an invite as anyone ever gets. If we had pursued it in the slightest we'd be in OVER MISSOURI.
Anyone that thinks we weren't in is clueless.
