Options for those worked up by this.

1. Contract the conference to a size that allows for round robin play and get rid of championship games. Let's face it. Conference championship games are in part a money grab anyway. Especially in the BigXII, who takes a risk that their undefeated team will get beat in the CG. I'm not anti-money grab. I'm just saying they can't have it both ways.

2 If an individual team doesn't like it, they can go independent, just like Notre Dame--or UMass.

3. If the schools want to build rest into their schedules, they can schedule themselves a bye before the (potential) championship game. Yes, I know that is rivalry weekend. But there is nothing sacred about playing on Thanksgiving weekend. In fact, I for one, wish they would spread these rivalry games out through the earlier weeks. From a fans perspective, there are just too many on TV at the same time that would be great to watch. UVa-Tech wasn't always played Thanksgiving weekend and it doesn't need to be.

By the way, the same problem could happen now with 4, albeit isn't as extreme. If 11-1 Alabama makes the 4-team CFP but fails to win the SEC West, then yeah, they have a competitive advantage over the rest.

Here's the bottom line. There is no College Football Commissioner or Czar to make everything equitable. There isn't going to be four neat and tidy perfect super conferences and balanced schedules. And yes, you are going to have scheduling quirks that create an advantage for someone. But IIWII. The old system pre-BCS had problems (dual national champions), the BCS had problems (the possibility of shutting out undefeated conference champion), CFP (G5 and at least one major conference champion still being left out, and the subjectivity of the committee). This 12-team system will have its problems too, but it also fixes problems also while giving fans more meaningful football.

I think @OU_Sooner and @goldendomer make some good point below as well.
