True for Europe countries, but South America is a bit different

European countries surely don't care as they have it all for the big competitions/tournaments. Champions League every year for the clubs and then the Euros sandwiched between the World Cup and World Cup Qualifying. They don't have time to worry about the Olympics.

If we qualified, we might have tried to make a run for the medal stand this year with our abundance of young talent, it sounded like Pulisic wanted to play if we made it. I do not know if he and others would have got released by the big clubs, but they might have this year.

Brazil won at home in 2016 and Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, William and some other big names played.

Mexico in 2012

Argentina won in 2008 with Messi
