Because it's not about you, it's about the content owners


they have what you want and until it makes them more money to give you what you want in another way, you will either pay them or not have it. The real underlying issue is that the content owners own the distribution outlets (cable companies, streaming services, internet services) which in any other industry would be an anti trust violation, but they keep their benefactors in washington fat and happy so those little legal things can be ignored.
