Often there was someone behind, but

they usually left plenty of room. It was a much simpler time then and there was a little more leeway in allowing "kids to be kids". Somehow, we all survived childhood.😁

I don't remember any real scary moments. The real hazzard was oncoming traffic, but as the streets were so narrow, that was usually not much of a concern.
