This story really doesn't have anything to do with snow or ice...
...but there was some snow on the ground when it happened so I'm going to say that counts.
I was a commercial construction superintendent for 15 years. About 12 years ago I built a credit union in the Richmond area, and before we had permanent water service to the building, we rented a special metered connection from the county that allowed us to get water from a fire hydrant. One day I asked one of our laborers to go fill up a wheelbarrow with water and park it by the building (I can't remember who needed it and why, but that's irrelevant). In my mind, I thought it was self-explanatory that to do this, the laborer would park the wheelbarrow beside the hydrant connection and open the valve just a tiny bit and let the water slowly fill up the wheelbarrow. However, about 10 minutes later I looked in that direction and saw the laborer standing about 20 feet away from the hydrant trying to catch water from a full-pressure stream shooting out of it. It was one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed...I really wish I had gotten a video of it.
