This was done after a big snowfall before the roads were fully plowed.

We would hide near a stop sign, wait for a vehicle to stop and then run out squat down and grab hold of the rear bumper of the vehicle. When the vehicle took off, you held on for as long as you could. We could easily get 6-8 across the back of a school bus. It was also considered good form if you could knock your fellow skitchers off the bumper.

I never remember a serious accident, although we occasionally got a lecture from the local police.
