Watched this last night and while it was stunning (at times) in terms of the special effects, I agree that it was not great in terms of plot/storyline.

At the end, we were left wondering what happened to the people on all the helicopters that we supposedly heading to some underground bunker (or maybe we misunderstood that at the beginning) and while Earth looked brown/red from the one satellite image shown on the space station, hard to know what exactly happened?

The little girl was a hallucination and is/was the female astronaut who is also his daughter that he did not know was his. (Note the scene when the astronaut is describing K-23 and the little girl is with him until the last shot after the astronaut told him that her mother was the woman he was with in the flashbacks).
