I too haven't read the book, but read about the movie after I saw it.


SPOILER.

What happened to earth? The book never says either, but based on the rings emanating from major cities, presumably nuclear armageddon.

The little girl was his imagination. The little girl is the daughter he never got to know because he was obsessed with work. But she did get moon rocks from him, that inspired her to become an astronaut and yes, that's her on the ship that heads back to Jupiter.

If you remember the answer to 1 question I have, please answer. The moon (N23 or K23, I forget which) IS Habitable. Is there a colony of humans established there? My wife seemed to remember them saying there is. I didn't remember that. The 2 people in the spaceship are heading back there. Will it be just the 2, plus baby on the way, of them?
