Good question. Makes you wonder what really will stick after this year.


So I'm going with option 2. But maybe this crazy season will teach the conferences some real lessons here.

It's entirely conceivable to see the P5 leagues next year go with 9-10 conference games, push the regular season all the way to mid-December every year in order to build in off weeks for cancellations (12 games over 15 weeks maybe), schedule any non-conference games during a quasi-mandatory window of early September, and finally get rid of about 15-20 useless bowl games, and expand the playoff to 8. It's a silver lining to a dreary reality right now, but I'd love to see these temporary 2020 changes become permanent going forward. Actual conference shuffling - not likely. Positive conference changes - very possible.
