My $7,000 proactive mistake. It wasn't a water heater, but two years ago

I began thinking that it would be better to replace our 30 year old well pump instead of waiting for it to fail and being inconvenienced by having it fail unexpectedly. Bad idea. The old pump turned out to be stuck in the casing and in the process of trying to pull it, ended up severing all connections to it. Result, new well at a cost of $7,000. Plus two weeks later friends from England arrived while the well had not yet passed inspection by the county health dept. Lost of bottled water and inconvenience.
