Government officials with guaranteed salaries are comfortable telling everyone to stay home. What is it, half the US populace doesn't have one month of savings? They need to work. They want to work. To pay their rent, buy medicine, buy food, etc. That's one reason why there's protests. Add to that the severely depleted tax revenues for states, and there will already be major cuts in services... schools, medicaid, mental health, police, fire, and on and on. The longer those with guaranteed salaries keep things closed, the worse it will be for everyone else. Yes, some people will contract covid because of reopening, but at what cost? Billions of dollars and people on the streets? Where do you draw the line?
