The idea of college is very out of date

There are clear lines for some careers that go from college to entry level to upper levels within a profession. But there are a bunch of majors out there that don't really translate directly to a career. They may teach general skills or critical thinking, but they are not a career. And then we have all the required electives that enrich the learning, but really are not necessary. That's probably at least a full year's worth of time and tuition right there. If I did a random poll at work, I'd bet less than 25% of the people have a job that is in the same field as their college degree.

And the internet has grown up quite a bit over the past 20 years with so much more information available to anyone. College only really has two advantages at this point, access to experts (the teachers), and the environment/experience to meet new people and grow. The cost has absolutely outpaced the value.
