The relative wealth of millennial isn't really an issue
It is the fact that they (a) pioneered the sharing economy which means it is realistic to predict a MUCH lower rate of car ownership by the time the last of the boomers dies off, and (b) as a generation, they tend to lack the passion for the automobile that prior generations did.
Which brings up an interesting corollary...if younger generations really do care less about cars than older ones and the future will see much less car ownership than the past or present, that could be mindblowingly crippling to the US economy. Somewhere around 20-25% of the overall economy is automotive-based. And we're talking good jobs here, not people with masters degrees working as baristas.
